Reflexology is a focused pressure technique that uses the thumb and finger and combines it with massage, relaxation, and joint mobilization techniques which targets the thousands of nerve endings in each foot. There are zones and reflexes in the body that are relative to all parts, glands and organs that the body corresponds to.
Reflexology can be used to restore and sustain the body’s natural balance and enable healing.
The Reflexologist can distinguish tiny deposits and imbalances and by working on these points (internal organs, glands, muscle groups, bones, and nerves), they can release these blockages.
You will begin by going over your health history with the practitioner. The reflexologist will then explain to you how reflexology works and what you will expect from your session. You will then lie down on a massage table and have your feet elevated by pillows. The reflexologist may also use aromatherapy oils for added benefits. They will use the right amount of pressure on your feet that you are okay with as they do not want to hurt you. Communication between practitioner and client is expected. It is the client’s responsibility to practice cleanliness before going to their session.
During the reflexology session you may feel relaxed and feel some sensations throughout your body, such as tingling or lightness in the body, feelings of warmth, a sense of opening or flowing energy as the practitioner is moving pressure from the area of the body or organ.
You may also feel physical or emotional reactions to the session, for example:
- Dampness of hands or feet
- Feeling light-headed
- Laughing
- Sighing deeply
- Vanishing of all pain and discomfort
- Thirsty
- Feeling of being cold
- Coughing
- Crying
- Overwhelming desire to sleep
- Loose, relaxed muscles and organs
- Contraction of muscle groups (pain)
After your reflexology session you may have several reactions that normally subsides between 24-48 hours, these include:
